Legal education in Argentina: A critical review

Abstract

This article contains a synthesis of the most relevant aspects of legal education in Argentina, analyzed from a socio-legal perspective. It is divided into three parts: in the first, using contributions from historical research on the subject, some of the most outstanding processes that converged in the configuration of higher education in the country are reviewed, those that act as systemic conditioning factors of legal education. In the second part, organizational aspects of Law careers are described, making use of statistical data provided by the Ministry of Education of Argentina and information obtained from academic research works. In the third, based on the contributions of our own research and that of other specialists, some of the most characteristic features of the dominant pedagogical discourse of law careers are analyzed.

Carlos Alberto Lista, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba

Carlos Alberto Lista has a doctorate in Law and Social Sciences with a postgraduate degree in Sociology (UNC) and a master's degree in Sociology from New York University. He is an emeritus professor at the National University of Córdoba, Argentina. He served as scientific director of the Sociology International Institute, Oñati, Basque Country, Spain (2007-2009) and was co-founder and first president of the Argentine Society of Legal Sociology.
