La determinación de la enterotoxina ter­moestable (ST) se realizó mediante las técnicas de inoculación intragástrica en ratón lactante y asa intestinal ligada de ternero.</p><p align="justify">12,01 % de las cepas resultaron positivas a la producción de enterotoxina termoestable en el ratón lactante y un 14,4% de ellos demostró positividad en el modelo ternero existiendo una asociación esta­dística significativa (p ≤0,05) entre los resultados obtenidos con ambas técnicas empleadas.</p><p align="justify">La aplicación de temperatura igual o superior a 80°C afectó significativamente la toxigenicidad de ST (p ≤ 0,05).</p><p align="justify">Palabras claves: diarrea, terneros.</p><p align="left"><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>With the objetive of studying the enterotoxigenicity, 283 E. coli strains isolated from diarrhoeic calves were analized. Suckling mouse inoculation assay and calf ligated intesti­nal segments test were the methods used detect the heat - stable enterotoxin (ST).</p><p align="justify">In the suckling mouse model 12,01% of the strains showed ST. In the calf ligated intestinal segment 14,48% were positive to enterotoxigenicity. There was a statistical association between the results obtained by both methods (p ≤ 0.05). Temperature equal or higher than 80ºC affected the biological activity of ST (p ≤ 0,05) tested with the suckling mouse assay.</p><p align="justify">Key words: E. coli, diarrhoea, calves.</p><p> </p> ER -
