Abstract

The presence of Campylobacter organisms was investigated in one hundred suckling pigsc with diarrhoea. For this purpose, bilis and scrapes of small and large intestine were cultured for isolation. Two different isolation techniques were employed, ultrafiltration and Butzler selective medium.

The presence of Campylobacter was demonstrated in 32% of the pigs, isolating both C. coli and C. jejuni species with 96.8% for the former and 3.2% for the latter. No other Campylobacter species reported in swine were isolated. The organisms were recovered in 67,4% from the large intestine, 30,2% from the small intestine and 2,3% from bilis. Antimicrobial susceptibility test, showed that 96,6% of the strains were sensitive to neomicin.
ER -
